Happy Sunday everyone! Now, before we get into the outfit, I had all the best intentions of heading somewhere nice and pretty to take some photos for my blog, as I really wanted to make this outfit post into something special for you all. But, unfortunately my designated photographer was feeling poorly, it started raining and there was no one else around that I could pester into taking my photo!
But seeing as I curled my hair and used my “good” foundation I was determined not to let anything get in my way of getting this new outfit up for you. To be honest I think I was more upset over the thoughts of wasting my good makeup on doing nothing rather than not being able to get outside to take the photos (priorities). But Im sure you all can relate to this? Am I right?
The gingham trend is EVERYWHERE this season and I am loving it. Every item of clothing you like to wear you can now get in gingham form – trousers, skirts, blouses, jackets – anything! This absolute beauty of a midi skirt is from the one and only Topshop. It was love at first sight. Even before I tried it on, I was like yeah…your’e mine. Do you ever get those instinctive feelings about pieces that you just know are meant to be? Well this was it for me. Its such a statement piece, which is why I love it. It could be styled a million different ways and although the high street is making us think its the middle of July with all their see through dresses and crop tops on the rails, its really not. Its windy, cold and wet – in Ireland anyway. So, I decided to style this gingham piece a little more Irish weather appropriate. When its summer I shall definitely be styling it more retro like what were seeing in all the magazines and from the high street.
I took a more grunge approach to the trend here, which I think turned out pretty cute. This piece is a great buy if you want to approach the gingham trend without looking too “farm girl” if that makes sense. You don’t always have to go head first for a new trend and commit to it from head to toe. You can simply buy a statement piece and see how it fits into your style. By pairing it with a cute basic top you are all set and ready to go.
